CONCEALED CARRY
In Hawaii, you must have a permit to conceal and carry a handgun (Shall Issue).
However, you must have a reason of fearing injury.
Permits are issued per county, by the chief of police in that county.
OPEN CARRY
A license or permit is required to open carry a firearm in Hawaii.
You may open carry a long gun when hunting or target shooting.
The open carry of long guns is legal in a vehicle, if you are traveling to or from hunting or target practice with a valid hunting license.
MOTOR VEHICLE CARRY
You must have a permit or license to have a loaded firearm in your car or vehicle.

NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT (NFA) FIREARMS
Hawaii firearms law bans short-barreled shotguns and rifles, machine guns, and suppressors (silencers).
HUNTING
No permit is required for those under the age of 21 when using a rifle for hunting in Hawaii, as long as underage hunter is accompanied by an adult hunter with a valid hunting permit.
Hunting with a pistol is legal with a license, and it must be carried openly and you must have a valid hunting permit.
You can open carry a long gun when hunting, as long as you have a valid hunting permit.
FIREARM TRANSFERS & SALES
A permit is required before buying a firearm.
Firearms must be registered with the chief of police in your county.
Background checks are required.
Must be 21 years of age.
There is a 14 day waiting period (minimum).
There is no limit on the number of firearms purchased at one time.
AMMUNITION REGULATIONS
Ammo is heavily regulated in Hawaii.
The storage of ammo is heavily regulated in Hawaii.
There is a 10 round magazine capacity.
Teflon coated ammunition is prohibited.
Exploding ammunition is prohibited.
