IOWA
CONCEALED CARRY
In Iowa, no permit is required to carry a concealed handgun.
Must be 21 years of age.
OPEN CARRY
No permit is required to open carry a handgun or long gun.
Must be 21 years of age.
MOTOR VEHICLE CARRY
No regulations on having guns and firearms in your car or vehicle (exceptions include public highways).
NATIONAL FIREARMS ACT (NFA) FIREARMS
NFA weapons are not allowed in Iowa, with very few exceptions.
HUNTING
Firearm regulations vary per hunting season. Consult your local authorities.
FIREARM TRANSFERS & SALES
No requirement for firearms to be registered.
No permit required for firearms.
Must be 21 years of age to buy a handgun.
Background check is required when purchasing from a gun dealer.
There is no limit to the number of firearms purchased at one time.
AMMUNITION REGULATIONS
Handguns – must be 21 to buy ammo.
Long Guns – must be 18 to buy ammo.
Detonating and exploding bullets are unlawful.
